My method is a unique integration of group analysis, psychodrama and bioenergetic analysis. The reason why I have chosen to integrate these three models is because I have personal experience of them in my own therapy and I am trained professionally in all of them. When combined in this way, I believe that I have discovered a method of working that respects psychoanalytic theory whilst accelerating the process of change through the use of action techniques and emotional expression.

Ideally I like to work with a group of 16-20 members with an equal mixture of men and women. The first session of four days is an opportunity for everyone to try out my methods and discover whether this way of working suits them. If you hesitate for some reason, it is OK to come along to the first workshop and decide afterwards if you wish to continue.

I establish a therapeutic contract with the group and create a respectful and supportive environment therein. This includes some basic rules such as confidentiality of the material that emerges in the group and no violence. I also discourage sexual acting out.

I facilitate the development of a psychoanalytic group process where multiple transference become established and the emerging themes are worked upon therapeutically. The working tools are psychodrama to enact scenes from the past, do family sculpting etc. and bioenergetics to release emotionally blocked feelings and retrain the body to be grounded in reality. (Every psychological defence usually has a parallel defence located in the body.)

There are daily exercises, some individual, some paired so that everybody in a four day workshop has a chance to release their own body tensions and feelings. Many of these exercises are excellent in the management of stress and psychosomatic illness. You will learn a lot of techniques in Yoga, Qi-Gong, Shiatsu and massage.

You may also be wondering who I am. So here are a few facts about my background. I graduated in Edinburgh, Scotland as a doctor of medicine and was then trained there as a psychiatrist. I worked for Maxwell Jones, the founder of the concept of the Therapeutic Community and trained with him in social and community psychiatry. This qualified me to work as a consultant in mental health for the World Health Organisation in Argentina.

I then decided to train as a group psychoanalyst in London. However, I felt that talking in therapy seemed to be limited and slow in results. So I decided to explore the potential of psychodrama and joined a psychodrama therapy group and attended many workshops. I also decided to train as a family therapist in order to see how family dynamics influence group dynamics.

After some years, I became fascinated by bioenergetics. It added an understanding of how the body can hold on to old traumas and the importance of working with the body. I trained with the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis, New York.

I have lead psychotherapy groups since 1975. I also have been a staff supervisor and trainer in several institutions. Currently I am introducing (for the first time in Sweden) body therapy into a rehabilitation program for drug addicts. I am running (also for the first time in Sweden) a project for the rehabilitation of victims suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) using bodywork.

In Switzerland I directed a family therapy training program and supervise staff from two child care centres.

I hope that the above information will be enough to give you a better idea of how I work. In the end, the only way to discover more is to try it out!
